Frequently Asked Questions
How much electricity can I generate?
The solar power that you can generate is dependent on the size of your rooftop. Typically a 100 sqft shadow free rooftop area can generate up to 4 units of electricity every day.
Can the solar rooftop plant power all the electronic appliances in my home?
Yes, including heavy appliances like air conditioners, micro oven etc. can also be powered by the rooftop solar plants.
Do I need a battery to store the solar power generated by the rooftop solar plant?
There are two types of rooftop solar plants, off grid and net grid. While the off grid solar plants need a battery to store the power during the day, no battery is needed to store the solar power in the net grid systems. Under the net grid scheme, extra power generated during the day by the rooftop solar plant is fed to the electricity grid whereas during the night you can draw power from the electricity grid.
What happens to the rooftop solar plant during load shedding?
As the rooftop solar plant is connected with the grid, during load shedding, the rooftop solar plant also gets shut-off. The solar inverter automatically senses that the GRID connection is down and shut-offs the solar power plant as it has an inbuilt Anti-Islanding feature.
In a building society or an office complex, given that there is only a common rooftop, can one install a rooftop solar plant?
Yes, one can easily install a rooftop solar plant provided all the members of the society or complex give an approval for the same. The power generated by the rooftop solar plant can be used to support the common areas in a building society or an office complex such as the lift, water pump, lighting in the garden, parking lots, common foyer area.
Will the rooftop plant damage the rooftop during the installation?
There are different types of mounting structures available for setting up a solar rooftop solar plant. Depending on the location of the site and the size of the rooftop plant, we can use mounting structures that do not need to be bolted onto the rooftop. Even where the structures need to be bolted onto the roof for additional support, all care is taken to ensure that there is no damage to the roof and sealants are used around the bolts so as to prevent any leakage.
What is the life of a rooftop plant?
The rooftop solar plants primarily consist of solar panels. The solar panels come with a product warranty of 10 to 12 years and a performance warranty of 25 years. Hence one can generate power from the rooftop solar plants for minimum 25 years.
What is the maintenance cost for a rooftop solar plant?
A rooftop solar plant does not need much maintenance and periodically needs only washing with soft water so that the panels can continue operating at their peak efficiency level. With our smart remote monitoring system, we can monitor the solar power produced by the solar plant and identify any potential risks to the operations of the solar plant or can recommend cleaning of panels to maximize the efficiency of the plant. Cleaning of panels regularly is a must as it can impact the energy produced by a rooftop solar plant by close to 10%.
Is it necessary to conduct the site and energy audit before installing the rooftop solar plant?
The site audit and energy analysis is a very important step before finalizing the plant location & plant size, as it directly impact the efficiency & life of the plant. It is also very important to conduct the site audit from experienced solar energy advisors only.
What is the site audit and energy analysis and what do you do in this?
The energy analysis and site audit are key parameters in defining the next step in the plant installation.
Energy audit – The energy audit consist of last 12 months electricity consumption data analysis which help us understand your current average monthly consumption. We also estimate your immediate future electricity requirement in case you are planning to add any heavy consumption more appliances in your home like AC etc. or planning to extent your current home. This exercise helps us determine your final electricity requirement, thus the rooftop solar plant which can produced up to 100% of your requirement.
Site audit- A rooftop audit consists of scanning your rooftop with great level of detailing and identifying the best possible location to install a solar rooftop plant. The scanning of rooftop includes the identifying the immediate shadow creating objects on your terrace, nearby terraces and analyzing their impact on the plant efficiency.
Is there Government subsidy available?
The Government keeps announcing subsidy schemes to promote the installation of the rooftop solar plant. These schemes are disbursed through central agencies like SECI, MNRE or through state energy nodal agencies. The subsidy is close to 30% of the installation cost of the rooftop solar plant for the residential and institutional sectors and this helps lower the payback period.
The subsidy in Maharashtra expired on 3rd November’2017, while it is available in many other states.
What are the financing options?
National & Private sector banks provideloans for installing the rooftop solar plant. If you have an ongoing housing loan then you can use the top up loan facility to fund the installation of the rooftop solar plant. We also have a financing partner who provides unsecured loans to fund the installation of a rooftop solar plant.
